MAJLISH was founded in the beginning of 2016 when a group of friends with intent passion for Bengali drama decided to form a team and wanted to produce Bengali plays regularly on stage. This has led to the formation of MAJLISH. Since then, MAJLISH has grown rapidly with increasingly active member-base and besides Kolkata, has extended its activities to the Netherlands and the UK as well.
In the truest sense of the term, this is an indo-dutch initiative, probably the first ever Bengali theatre group of its own kind. The performers on stage come from both Kolkata and the Netherlands. MAJLISH stages Bengali play every year in Kolkata and has also started staging its productions in the Netherlands since 2018. It had its inaugural event in the Netherlands on 07 April 2018. From the feedback we have received, it is quite evident that the productions staged by MAJLISH so far in the Netherlands, Kolkata and the UK have been well-attended and greatly appreciated by the audience. We feel proud to entertain the audience and honoured to see the people keeping trust and confidence on us. With full support and encouragement from our friends, spectators, critics and benevolents, we will definitely succeed in reaching even greater heights in the years to come. নাটকের প্রতি একটা আগ্রহ বা ভালোলাগা ছিলই, কিন্তু সেটা আরও উজ্জীবিত হয়ে উঠলো প্রবাসের এই নিঃসঙ্গতাকে কাটিয়ে তোলার তাগিদে – দলবদ্ধভাবে কিছু করার পরিকল্পনার সেখান থেকেই শুরু। ২০১৬ সালে প্রথমে ঠিক করলাম কলকাতার মঞ্চে আমরা বাংলা নাটক মঞ্চস্থ করবো, বাংলা সংস্কৃতির পীঠস্থানে সফলভাবে কিছু পরিবেশন করতে পারার আনন্দই আলাদা। কিন্তু কাদের নিয়ে করবো? ঠিক হলো নেদারল্যান্ডসের কিছু নাট্যবন্ধু আর কলকাতার কিছু আত্মীয়-বন্ধু মিলে হবে এই নাটক। যেমন ভাবা, তেমন কাজ। আমাদের কলকাতার এক বন্ধু ছুটলো মঞ্চ ঠিক করতে। জ্ঞান মঞ্চে অগাস্টে দিন খালি আছে, ঠিক হলো ওখানেই মঞ্চস্থ করা হবে আমাদের প্রথম নাটক। কিন্তু নাটকের দলের নাম কি হবে? নাম ছাড়া তো বুকিং করা যাচ্ছে না। সঙ্গে সঙ্গে একাধিক ফোনপর্ব।সেই মুহূর্তে যা মনে এলো, বলে দিলাম নাম রাখো ‘মজলিশ’। এভাবেই নেদারল্যান্ডসের মতন ছোট্ট একটা দেশ থেকে, যেখানে বাঙালির সংখ্যা বেশ কম, আর বাংলা নাটকের দর্শকের সংখ্যা আরও কম, সেখান থেকেই ভূমিষ্ঠ হলো ইন্দো -ডাচ থিয়েটার গ্রূপ ‘মজলিশ’। কলকাতার সঙ্গে নেদারল্যান্ডসের বাঙালিদের এক সাংস্কৃতিক সেতুবন্ধনের সূচনা হলো।
প্রতি বছরই জুলাই- অগাস্টে ছুটি কাটাতে কলকাতায় যাই – এতদিন পর্যন্ত কলকাতা যাবার আকর্ষণ ছিল শুধুই আত্মীয়-বন্ধুদের সঙ্গে আনন্দ, বেড়ানো, খাওয়া-দাওয়া, সেই বছর থেকে তার সঙ্গে যুক্ত হলো নাটক। সারাদিন অন্য কাজ সেরে ফেলে প্রতি সন্ধ্যায় নাটকের জোরদার রিহার্সাল – তিন সপ্তাহের মহড়াশেষে মঞ্চস্থ হলো উৎপল দত্তর “রাতের অতিথি” নাটকটি। কলকাতার মঞ্চে মজলিশের প্রথম অভিষেক ঘটলো। ২০১৬, ২০১৭ তে কলকাতার মঞ্চে সফল উপস্থাপনার পর ২০১৮ তে নেদারল্যান্ডসের মাটিতে মজলিশের প্রথম অনুষ্ঠান পরিবেশিত হলো । দুটি ছোট নাটক ও একটি শ্রুতিনাটক দিয়ে সাজানো সন্ধ্যা। এখানেও দর্শকদের মন জয় করে নিলো মজলিশ। শুধুমাত্র বাংলা নাটক দিয়ে সাজানো সন্ধ্যাও যে প্রবাসী মনকে আনন্দ দিতে পারে, তা প্রমাণিত হলো। আমাদের উদ্দেশ্য সফল, এভাবেই আগামী দিনে এগিয়ে যাবো আমরা। অনেক ঘাত প্রতিঘাতের মধ্যে দিয়ে মজলিশের উত্থান – তাই তার জীবনীশক্তি অমলিন। আশা করবো সকলের ভালোবাসা আর সহযোগিতাকে পাথেয় করে মজলিশ এগিয়ে যাবে বহুদূর।
